Workplace Violence Discipline Procedure

In a recent decision an appelate court has ruled that a company need not follow its disciplinary procedure when discharging a potentially violent employee. The court wrote that progressive discipline policies do not require that all steps be taken regardless of the infraction. An example of this is an employee who seriously injures or kills an employee need not receive an oral reprimand first, but obviously could and should be terminated.
